Atelier Indigo August 2012

Have you read the August 2012 issue of Atelier Indigo yet?

Our second issue will take you on a journey through the world of fashion in art, literature, and film.  It's amazing, when you really think about it, how connected these things are.  That's what I love about fashion.

Check out my articles "Wearable Art", "Art 101", and "Into YARNANA"!

Incubus @ Jones Beach

In the blink of an eye summer is coming to an end!  End of summer means the days are getting shorter, it's time to stock up on fall & winter staples...and in the past couple of years, it's come to mean Incubus concerts!

I'd been waiting all summer to see Incubus at Jones Beach!  They're playing the Honda Civic Tour with Linkin Park.  After having a terrible day (bad day at work, thunderstorms, flooded streets) I was super psyched to get to the venue.  The Nikon at Jones Beach Theater is huge and it was a sold out show, but my friend Ken got us awesome tickets all the way up front in the 8th row!

Incubus rocked my face off, what else is new?  It rained through their entire set and I got soaked, but I didn't mind.  It was actually kinda cool!  There was one point in the show where the rain slowed down to a drizzle, but I noticed that I was getting hit with raindrops to the beat of the music.  Incubus was rocking so hard that I was getting hit by water coming off of the overhang of the stage.  They were literally making it rain.  So amazing.

This was only the second show of the tour, and the band seemed like they were really into it & having fun.  Brandon said that he loves New York & he loves playing here.  They played a lot of songs off their older albums, and they actually played one of their B-sides "Rebel Girls" live for the very first time!

Most Incubus shows have been bittersweet for me in some way or another, but this one especially since the band has announced a hiatus after this tour.  They've done this before, so I'm not worried.  I know they'll be back again someday, better than ever with new music that will continue to blow my mind.

Until then, thanks Incubus!  I'm looking forward to next time and all the good things this time off will bring~

Yarnana

One of the many perks of dating a filmmaker is that I get to tag along to lots of fun events!  A while back Mike and I went to a rooftop film screening in Brooklyn.  It was a wonderful night of watching local independent films under the stars.  One film in particular really struck me, YARNANA.

"Lost on the streets of New York City, a crochet girl must decide what's real before her universe unravels."

The film is an eclectic mix of art, music, fashion, and dance.  I was so enchanted by the story and the film's main character that I just had to know more.  I had the chance to sit down with the makers of the film in NYC and interview them!

Be on the lookout for the full interview in the August 2012 issue of Atelier Indigo!

Ole Henriksen Truth-to-Go Cleansing Wipes

I had the pleasure of meeting Ole Henriksen at the grand opening of Sephora Columbus Circle last month~ He's a wonderful, friendly, infectiously happy man with a wealth of skincare knowledge.  He was generous enough to give everyone at the event a goodie bag stuffed with some of his best-selling products!  I've been trying them all one by one, and I'm really impressed with them!

After meeting Ole, I've become really interested in skincare and getting my skin under control.  Here's my favorite of his products so far~

Ole Henriksen Truth-to-Go Cleansing Wipes
"These luxurious cleansing wipes gently remove dirt, grime, and makeup while essential fatty acids nourish the skin. Its mild, naturally based cleansing ingredients remove even the most stubborn eye makeup. Vitamin C and micro algae help to brighten, firm, and smooth the texture of skin. With the truth collection's signature citrus vanilla scent, each cloth is a refreshing pick me up."

After just one use, I fell in love with these wipes.  They smell like creamsicles, so intoxicating!

I like to use them at night.  They make my nighttime cleansing routine so easy!  I still prefer to use eye makeup remover as the wipes do require a bit of effort to remove mascara and eyeliner.  However, they remove foundation, bronzer, and blush quite easily!

Just one wipe is enough to wash my entire face, leaving it clean, refreshed, soft, lightly scented, and ready for bed.  I actually look forward to washing my face at night now!  I can't even begin to describe what a huge deal that is for me.  I've always struggled with being too lazy to wash my face before bed, which as we all know is horrible for your skin.  These cleansing wipes make the job so quick and effortless, I'm already seeing the positive difference on my face.

Overall 5/5

Great for all skin types and with added benefits like moisturizing & anti-aging properties, you can't go wrong with these!  Even though I still have to use my regular acne cleanser in the morning for a deep clean and I still have to use eye makeup remover, these wipes are a miracle product for people who are lazy like me!  At just $15 for a pack of 30 wipes, they're really great value.  Don't be lazy - buy these!!

Bone Jour

Burger and Friends sent me this super rad T-shirt!  The Texas-based T-shirt and accessories line features geeky yet glamorous graphics and illustrations.  What I really love about the collection is that while it's humorous, it's not at all cheesy.  It's quite stylish and cool, stuff that I would actually wear!

I don't wear T-shirts often.  Most of the time I look at T-shirts or collections of T-shirts and think, "oh, just some plain old tees".  But with Burger and Friends, that is so not the case!  Their collection definitely makes a statement.  Their T-shirts are eye-catching and unique, absolutely perfect for days when you really don't feel like dressing up but still want to look cool or cute.  It was so easy to throw on my Bone Jour tee over a dress to create a casual yet unique look!

I definitely want to stock up on some of their cool raglan sweatshirts and pullovers for autumn & winter.  What are you waiting for?  Shop now on Etsy!

The Life Aquatic

I've loved marine life for as long as I can remember.  The sea is something I've always been fascinated with.  As a kid I'd spend my time watching documentaries about whales & dolphins and reading books about the deep sea.  One of my favorite childhood memories is visiting Sea World in Orlando.

Mike and I visited the Atlantis Marine World aquarium in Riverhead~  It was a perfect magical day, the closest thing I've had to a vacation all summer.  While Atlantis Marine World may not be as impressive as Sea World, I felt so alive and in touch with my childhood as I gazed at coral reefs, held starfish, and felt rays swim past my fingertips.

I want to live in a house on the sea.  I want to swim with dolphins, I want to wear starfish in my hair.  Something about the deep and the unknown pulls me in.  I wonder, if I jumped into the sea and just kept swimming, would I find what I am looking for?

Crackle Me Pink

Just in time for summer, Avon has released their Mosaic Effects nail polish in seven fierce new shades!

I already gave the Mosaic Effects polish a rave review, and I'm so excited about these new colors!  The crackle look is something that I don't think will go out of style any time soon.  It's so quick and easy to create something that looks really fun and interesting!  Now with these new colors, we can create all sorts of eye-catching looks~

The new shades are very shiny and metallic.  I chose Fiery Fuchsia because I can do so many color combinations with this fun pink!  This color would look great paired with all kinds of pinks, yellows, purples, blues...I could go on and on.  Why don't you just try it for yourself?
